Ned-Deck Marine’s life saving equipment fully complies with the latest IMO/SOLAS requirements, LSA Code and European Council Directive 96/98 EC on Marine Equipment (M.E.D).

The European Council Directive on Marine Equipment (96/98 EC) entered into force 1 January 1999; latest amended in September 2002 by Commission Directive 2002/75/EC (mandatory from 23 March 2003). Since January 1st, 1999, all designated equipment to be placed on board European (EU and associated EEA countries Norway and Iceland) ships has to bear a special marine mark of conformity: the wheel mark ( ). This conformity assessment procedure applies both to the design and the production phase.

The purpose of the Marine Equipment Directive (M.E.D.) is to :
Enhance safety at sea and the prevention of marine pollution through uniform application of international instruments ( IMO Conventions, Resolutions, Circulars and relevant international testing standards ) related to the equipment in question.
Ensure the free movement of equipment within the European Economic Area (EEA), consisting of the EU and EFTA Member States.

Altogether this Directive will apply to some 10,000 items and the following marine equipment are covered by the Directive:
Lifesaving appliances
Marine pollution prevention systems
Fire protection systems
Navigation equipment
Radio-communications equipment
